former US presidents? Big thank you to Rool, Menu, and luckytyphlosion. A full French translation of Phantasy Star IV is now available. Phantasy Star IV is a role-playing game for the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive platform. It’s the final chapter of the “classic” Phantasy Star series. It’s in the opinion of the translators an excellent RPG, on par with the later Final Fantasy episodes on the SNES.
The setting is a mixture of medieval and futuristic technology, combining fully self-aware androids and computers with sword and magic spells and techniques. The player will need all those things to save their solar system from ultimate evil. Those interested in this translation should note that this is not a “literal” translation. The translators worked hard to give the French localization its own feel, and make the character’s personalities come forward as much as possible. They believe that it remains true to the spirit of the characters, and they were very careful not to actually change the intent of the English script. BGE started this project in March 2018. He stumbled upon lory1990’s disassembly, which was the spark that ignited the project, since it made editing the script relatively straightforward and resizing windows straightforward.
The initial script translation was completed, full of typos and with some awkward phrasing, by early June, but then, life interfered and the project stalled. Galletteuh expressed interest translating this game in French on the RHDN forums in October, unaware of the existing translation since BGE hadn’t announced it. He started to work on it independently, also starting off from lory1900’s disassembly.
Mziab tipped off BGE about galletteuh’s intent, so communication was established. Galletteuh selflessly decided to use BGE’s work as base since it was fully translated already, and the translation team was formed. Galletteuh reviewed and corrected the whole script (twice!) amazingly quickly, played through the game (twice, again!) for final QA, fixed tons and tons of typos, and provided more natural phrasing across the board.
He also fixed a few font issues. The energy of having an additional team member was immediately tangible: BGE cracked down on an elusive window width problem, and that success brought him the confidence needed to fix a bunch of cosmetic issues that required changing the game engine’s code. After several years of painstaking work Pennywise, catfoodmoney, and team have finished a retranslation of the Gameboy classic RPG known as Gargoyle’s Quest in North America. As is typical of Pennywise’s work, significant care was taken to ensure everything looks as good as possible with significant work to the menus and even a title screen translation courtesy of FlashPV. The original translation was reportedly heavily abbreviated, something this retranslation doesn’t suffer from.
If you’re a fan of the series or just looking for a classic portable RPG to dig into, this is a great place to start! This is an automated message generated by ROMhacking.net’s RHDNBot.
An English translation patch for the Game Gear strategy/fighting game Godzilla: Kaijuu Daishingeki (Godzilla: Monsters Attack) has been released, opening all-new avenues for players to live out their fantasies of flattening Tokyo. Or protecting it, for the weirdos. Godzilla: Monsters Attack is a half-strategy, half-one-on-one fighting game in which the player can play as either Godzilla and friends (trying to achieve certain city destruction quotas) or the JSDF (desperately struggling to prevent it). Unit movement plays out in a turn-based top-down view, while combat is real-time and action-based. The game features five scenarios loosely modeled on various Godzilla films.
This patch was the work of TheMajinZenki (translation), Supper (hacking), cccmar (editing and testing), Xanathis (testing), and Filler (initial script dump). At the tail end of 2018, Psyklax, Filler, and FlashPV released an English language translation patch for Crayon Shin-Chan - Taiketsu!
Kantamu Panikku!! As “Crayon Shin-Chan: Showdown! Quantum Panic!!” for the Game Gear. Shin-chan’s Mommy wants to win tickets to a spa, and enrolls Shin-chan in the Quantum Battle held at Action Dept. Play and win a series of mini-games to take the grand prize in the Quantum Battle and make Mommy’s dreams come true! Filler dumped and translated the script as part of an effort to dump and translate scripts for all remaining Game Gear games that don’t have official or unofficial translations.
Psyklax rose to the unexpected challenge of cracking the game’s compression routine in his first real hack of the Master System/Game Gear. FlashPV provided a title screen design via Twitter which Psyklax drew and implemented utilizing the aforementioned compression routine. See the related project link. Also, earlier in the month Psyklax updated the English language translation patch for Sherlock Holmes: The Kidnapped Countess on the Famicom to fix an issue where the clue given when inputting the correct password in Edinburgh had been mistranslated, missing a vital ‘0′. Without this correct clue, the final password is almost impossible to figure out without a spoiler. Therefore, the line was replaced by the correct one.
The updated patch is available here: Finally, for those of you interested in enjoying Psyklax and Filler’s English language translation patch of SWAT: Special Weapons and Tactics for the Famicom, you’ll want to check out GAFF Translations’ SWAT Out-Of-Bounds Fix. This hack fixes two bugs related to the inability to complete a level due to missing enemies, one of which appears to be the cause of most of the issue, and the other being specific to an enemy on Floor 6. You may want to utilize the fast forward feature of your favorite emulator to speed up the slow text speed, but between the translation patch and bug-fix hack the game should be playable. Today aishsha, paulmet and Pennywise present a completed Sega Saturn translation for Linkle Liver Story. The translation began last year and has now finally seen a release with hacking by paulmet, translation by aishsha and the script editing by Pennywise.
It is complete and should be issue free. At its heart the game is just a simple Action RPG and features nice 2D graphics, a cute and charming story that is now fully translated, a rarity for the Sega Saturn. The team would like to note that they never figured out the meaning of the title Linkle Liver.
The best guess was that it was just some cute marketing ploy, but the game makes no mention of such text in the game or in the manual, which they have graciously translated as well. Maybe one day Special thanks to FlashPV and Lestat for the new title logo and Xanathis and cccmar for testing. Expect more good things to come.
